Levels of membership and Application Forms

The Research Society offers a range of individual membership levels to best fit the stage of your career. The information below contains details of any eligibility requirements and links to our online application forms. Full membership

Full membership is suitable for those employed in research, insights or analytics (either on the supplier or client side); as an academic in a related field; in marketing, advertising or management consultancies; or in a relevant position in an associated industry. +

To become a Full member of the Society you need to meet two eligibility requirements:

1) Applicants need to have had a minimum of two years' employment in a role in research, insights or analytics; as an academic in a related field; in marketing, advertising or management consultancies; or in a relevant position in an associated industry.
2) Your application needs the support of a Nominator who must be a current Full member or Fellow of the Society.

Associate membership

Associate membership offers the opportunity to become more involved in the research, insights and analytics industry, whether it is for professional or personal reasons, or a combination of both. +

Associate membership is for those who have an interest in research, insights and analytics. It will suit those who are in the early stages of a career in the industry, or who may be in related roles in other fields. By becoming an Associate member of the Society, those wanting to learn more about research, insights and analytics can take advantage of discounted rates for our professional development events, keep up with advances in the industry via our publications, receive expert advice and support, participate in our special interest groups and networks, and connect with other members at our functions.

Associate members do not need to meet any particular eligibility requirements. As for all Research Society membership levels, Associate members agree to abide by our Code of Professional Behaviour, our Constitution and Regulations.

Student membership

Student membership is for those who are enrolled full-time or part-time at any tertiary institution, and have an interest in research, insights and analytics. To be eligible, you must not be in full-time employment. +

Student members of The Research Society will be kept informed of the various professional development opportunities offered by the Society, including information about job opportunities not available elsewhere. Student members receive our quarterly publication, Research News, and are encouraged to become involved in the activities of our Young Researchers Network. Student members enjoy a nominal membership fee, but do not receive a membership certificate or a copy of our Handbook.

As the Society offers training and networking opportunities of interest throughout the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, we also offer Overseas membership levels for those residing and working outside Australia. The fees and inclusions for these differ, reflecting the different accessibility to some member benefits, and to exclude Australian GST.

Full-Overseas membership

Full-Overseas membership is suitable for those located outside Australia and who are employed in research, insights or analytics (either on the supplier or client side); as an academic in a related field; in marketing, advertising or management consultancies; or in a relevant position in an associated industry. +

To be eligible for Full-Overseas membership, applicants need to be living and working overseas, have been in a role in the industry for a minimum of two years, and to have the support of a Nominator who is a current Full member or Fellow of the Society.

Associate-Overseas membership

Associate-Overseas membership offers the opportunity for those located outside Australia to become more involved in the Australian research, insights and analytics industry, whether it is for professional or personal reasons, or a combination of both. +

Associate-Overseas membership is for those who have an interest in research, insights and analytics. It will suit those who are in the early stages of a career in the industry, or who may be in related roles in other fields. By becoming an Associate-Overseas member of the Society, those wanting to learn more about research, insights and analytics in Australia can take advantage of discounted rates for our professional development events including webinars, conferences and courses, keep up with advances in the industry via our online news and publications, receive expert advice and support, and connect with members in Australia and internationally through various networking opportunities.  There are no particular eligibility requirements for Associate-Overseas membership, but it is applicable only for those living and working outside Australia.

Student-Overseas membership

Student-Overseas membership is for those located outside Australia who are completing full-time or part-time studies in a course related to the research, insights and analytics industry. To be eligible, you must not be in full-time employment. +

Student-Overseas members will be kept informed of the various professional development opportunities offered by the Society. Student-Overseas members enjoy a nominal membership fee, but do not receive a membership certificate or hard copies of our publications however can access them online.

The annual fee for Full and Associate membership is $385 incl GST, and the cost on joining is calculated pro rata from the date you apply so you always receive full value for the period of membership you pay for.
