About Duncan Rintoul
Duncan has worked in research and evaluation since 1999, across a broad range of policy areas, organisational settings and methodologies. He runs Rooftop Social (www.rooftopsocial.com), which provides evaluation and research consultancy services, facilitation and training to a diverse mix of government agencies and NGOs. He also has a part-time role (2015-present) in the NSW Department of Education, in CESE - the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation. This role is focused on building evaluation capacity across the Department. He has previously held roles at: * The University of Wollongong (Manager of Applied Social Research, Institute for Innovation in Business and Social Research) * NSW Department of Family and Community Services (evaluation design for Stronger Together 2, the state's disability reform program 2011-16) * Urbis (Associate Director, Public Policy) * Wesley Mission (research and advocacy in Sydney's North West Sector). He has served as a Director of the Australasian Evaluation Society (2012-16) and is an active member of the AMSRS. He established the AMSRS Government & Social Research Network in 2011 and co-chaired the 2009 AMSRS Conference. He holds a Master of Policy Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economic Geography (both from UNSW), and is writing up his PhD at the University of Wollongong: 'Dynamic response formats in online surveys: Do they produce better data or are they just pretty toys?'. As part of this PhD work, he won Best Paper at the AMSRS Conference in 2012 and 2014.
