About Benjamin Phillips

Ben is Senior Research Director, Survey Methodology at the Social Research Centre. He is a survey researcher and methodologist with over 15 years of experience in the field. Ben has extensive experience with all phases of the survey life-cycle from writing proposals, questionnaire development and cognitive testing, sample design, managing data collection in in-person, paper, telephone and web modes, data processing, quality control, weighting, analysis, reporting, deidentification and data archiving. His research interests include web surveys, developing efficient sampling schemes for studies of rare ethnic and religious populations and optimal sample allocation. Prior to joining the Social Research Centre, Ben held a series of positions with increasing levels of responsibility at the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University in the U.S. (2002-10) and Abt SRBI and Abt Associates (2010-17), also in the U.S., where he led large survey projects for clients including the U.S. government, the Pew Research Center and Harvard Business School. Ben holds a BA (Hons.) with 1st Class Honours jointly in Government and Public Administration and Jewish Civilisation, Thought and Culture from the University of Sydney and an MA and PhD jointly in Sociology and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University in the U.S.
